About the creator Niels Cimpa

Niels Cimpa is an Austrian learning coach, memory trainer and the creator of HistroQuest. With a background in education, engineering and public service, he has always been fascinated by how people learn — and why some knowledge stays with us while other information is quickly forgotten.

He created HistroQuest to make history easier to understand, more exciting to explore and much harder to forget. Instead of simply presenting dates and facts, the app combines narrated stories, historical decisions, vivid illustrations and interactive guessing games.

At the heart of HistroQuest is a simple idea: we learn best when we are curious, actively involved and unafraid to make mistakes.

What is the science behind the Guess Quest System?

The Guess-Quest System is inspired by learning principles such as the generation effect, retrieval practice and errorful learning. Instead of immediately showing you the answer, HistroQuest first asks you to make a prediction or historical decision.

This active attempt prepares your brain for the correct information. When the answer is revealed, the contrast between your guess and what actually happened can create curiosity and make the explanation more memorable.

You do not have to guess correctly to learn. A thoughtful mistake followed by clear feedback can be more valuable than simply reading the answer.

Is the app free to play?

Yes and no. HistroQuest is free to download, and some campaigns and chapters can be explored at no cost. A Premium subscription unlocks the complete archive, including all available campaigns, chapters and future additions.

What does HistroQuest Premium cost?

HistroQuest Premium is available as a monthly or annual subscription. Current prices are displayed directly in the app and may vary depending on your country or region. The annual plan offers the best overall value.

Will there be more campaigns in the future?
